Modern Languages
The purpose of this program is for students to learn a foreign language as a first or second language so they can communicate successfully in order to understand and appreciate the Spanish-speaking/French/Italian/American Sign Language cultures.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of each course, students will:
SLOs for Spanish 120, French 120, and Italian 120.
- Engage in basic, two-way oral exchanges
- Read, comprehend, and write basic Spanish/French/Italian
- Begin to recognize the various Hispanic/French/Italian Culture(s)
SLOs for Spanish 121, French 121, and Italian 121.
- Engage in more complex oral exchanges
- Read, comprehend, and write more complex Spanish/French/Italian
- Recognize and distinguish the various Hispanic/French/Italian Culture(s)
SLOs for Spanish 240
- Interact in original and somewhat complex oral and written situations
- Read, comprehend, and write somewhat complex Spanish
- Distinguish and understand the various Hispanic Cultures
SLOs for Spanish 241
- Interact in original and complex oral and written situations
- Read and comprehend literary Spanish
- Distinguish and understand the various Hispanic Cultures
SLOs for ASL 120
- Recognize and produce basic ASL vocabulary dealing with real life situations
- Engage in basic, one-on-one dialogues in ASL using receptive/expressive skills
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of American Deaf history, and Deaf culture and community
SLOs for ASL 121
- Remember, recognize and produce intermediate-level ASL vocabulary dealing with real life situations
- Engage in intermediate-level one-on-one dialogues in ASL using receptive/expressive skills
- Demonstrate substantial knowledge of American Deaf history, and Deaf culture and community
