Health & Safety Requirements

All prospective students (ADN, PTEC Traditional, PTEC Apprenticeship (Fast Track), RESP) must have a Positive TITER report for the following:

  • Hepatitis B
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella

NOTE: EMR/EMT/Paramedic students will be given information on their specific Health and Safety Requirements within the first week of class

What is a Titer?

A titer is a blood test taken to determine immunity to various diseases. Please click here to view a resource guide for Titers, provided by Accesa Labs. View a to see a sample titer report

All positive titer requirements must be completed by each program's deadline date! Candidates will receive specific dates upon acceptance. In addition, a Tdap (Tetanus-Diphtheria and Pertussis) booster shot is required within the last eight years before program entry date.

If you plan on applying to any Health Occupation program, now is the time to consult with your healthcare provider to obtain your blood tests/titers. In the event of negative titers, booster shots according to CDC dosing schedules and new titers are required.

Prospective ADN and Respiratory Care students

You will be required to turn in your titers at application. If you have negative titers, we need to know you are in the process of obtaining immunity. This entails boosters or shot series. Please include this proof with your application.

What to Do if You Have a Negative Titer

*Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR): Depending on your vaccination history and how low your immunity level is – you may need up to 2 MMR boosters spaced 28 days (4 weeks) apart. A subsequent titer is required a minimum of 28 days (4 weeks) after the final booster.

*Varicella: Depending on your vaccination history and how low your immunity level is – you may need up to 2 Varicella boosters spaced 28 days (4 weeks) apart. A subsequent titer is required a minimum of 28 days (4 weeks) after the final booster.

*Hepatitis B Surface Antibody test: If no Adult series of Hepatitis B vaccinations has ever been started, you must complete the adult series of 3 vaccinations, spaced at 0, 1 and 6 months. A subsequent titer is required at least 4 weeks but no more than 8 weeks after 3rd shot. If you have begun the series, continue the series at the proper timing and the subsequent titer is required at least 4 weeks but no later than 8 weeks after 3rd shot.

Contact Cindy Miller at [email protected] if you have any questions about titers.

Please note: To obtain a positive Hep B titer result could take up to 9 months. Please be proactive and get started on your titers early!

Other requirement dates will be given upon acceptance.

Each student is responsible for maintaining current health requirements for their respective program. Students are also responsible for keeping original records of their titers, physical, TB, flu, etc. Please submit copies only.

Prospective students who do not meet the below requirements and do not submit the proper documentation will not be considered for enrollment. If you choose to send screenshots, they MUST include your name and medical source.

Positive Titer

Females should not be given the Varicella vaccine if pregnant or if there is any reason to suspect pregnancy. Because a risk to the fetus from administration of live virus vaccines cannot be excluded for theoretical reasons, women should be counseled to avoid becoming pregnant for 28 days after vaccination.
