Bio

Carlos is a Xicano-Filipino educator activist, raised with the values of social justice and love for community. A youth developer for the past 20 years, Carlos has worked with elementary, middle, high school and college students in San Francisco, New York City and the Napa Valley. He is a Co-founder of the Legacy Youth Project, a 5-12th grade Ethnic Studies youth program dedicated to supporting at-promise youth of the Napa Valley. Carlos’s LYP Ethnic Studies “heartwork” model has been nationally recognized and featured in the documentary, “The Mask You Live In.” He also teaches courses in Ethnic Studies in the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, He is also the Director of Innovation and Ethnic Studies Team Leader for Acosta Team Educational Partnership. 

Honors and Awards

Carlos is a co-founder of the grassroots organization, Napa Valley Ethnic Studies Advocates and Napa Valley Dream. He has also engaged in extensive international education and solidarity work in Cuba, El Salvador and Venezuela. His research interest is in the 20th and 21st century Ethnic Studies movement(s), youth development and activism, and Third World internationalism and Ethnic Studies.
