Public Records Request

About California Public Records Act (CPRA) Requests

Under the California Public Records Act, certain public records are available from the District. To request records maintained at Napa Valley Community College District, please submit a request to [email protected], or call (707) 256-7160. A written request is not required, but is preferred and may help if your request is complex.

Requests:

  • Must be specific and focused. Where a request is not specific or focused, the district will assist. Please note requests too general in nature, i.e. all files relating to, etc., may result in delay pending further identification of the records.
  • May not interfere with the business operations of the district.
  • Can be oral or in writing. For purposes of clarity, the district encourages written requests.

Upon request for a copy or inspection of records, Napa Valley Community College District shall, within 10 days from receipt of the request, determine whether the request, in whole or in part, can be made available and shall promptly notify the person making the request of the determination and the reasons therefore. In certain circumstances, the time limit prescribed in this section may be extended by written notice to the person making the request, setting forth the reasons for the extension and the date on which a determination is expected to be dispatched.

A request for transcripts, student records, or employment verification do not constitute a Public Records Act request.  Requests of this nature will not receive a response.  For questions regarding transcripts and student records, please visit the Transcript Requests webpage under Admissions and Records.  For employment verification, please contact the District Payroll Office.

You will be contacted when the information is available for pickup and/or inspection, or the information will be mailed to you at your request. All document duplication fees are due and payable in full and are based on Napa Valley Community College District’s current fee schedule, which is currently 38 cents per two-sided copy. Different charges may apply to requests under other statutory authority. Records that already exist in an electronic format will be produced and emailed without charge.
